What is the cost of buying a home in the historic town of Tavira?

Tavira is located approx. 36km from Faro airport and less than 30km from the Spanish border and is quiet, peaceful and very pretty with a rich history and unique character. The town extends along the banks of the Gilão River with beautiful 18th century mansions on both sides, linked by a Roman bridge.

The architecture reflects deep-rooted Moorish influences with charming public squares and an old historic part. Along the river sides you can see a lot of old and renovated houses, shops, and many restaurants. A walk through the ‘old town’ is highly recommended and a joy to visit: The historic buildings, famed churches, plazas and quaint, narrow cobbled streets are reminiscent of Tuscany - just not so busy! In the evenings Tavira offers alfresco dining along the river banks on both sides and in the old town.

The town is also well known for the most white, sandy and clean beaches on the Ilha de Tavira, its islands and sandbanks are easy to access by ferry, small boat, train or long delightful walks. These beaches and islands are protected within the Ria Formosa Natural Park. From Tavira you can take boat trips to other islands as well as towards the River Guardiana which is nature’s border between Portugal and Spain.
